Do this for your life experience. Please. Sit in the back with a book, or write--a four-person band (with an accordion) will play while you sip a cappuccino (or cup of coffee) and have a pastry. Can be there for hours, one of my favorite places... ever.

Cowgirl Creamery Cheese Shop

Go there. Go to the ferry building and eat everywhere. They lace cheese with truffle. They also have a tiny to-go restaurant where they make grilled cheese, mac and cheese.. all the good good.

 

Philz Coffee

Best cup of coffee I've ever had. Brew it one cup at a time. It's a chain, might be 10+ in the city. 

La Taqueria

Was closed for the holidays when I went- heard from everyone I've asked that this place is the best. Hands down. Order everything. Come early. 

 

Taqueria San Jose

Get a burrito with everything. Thank me later. 

 

Mikkeller Bar

specialty hot dogs with a million different toppings paired with cheap craft brews from all over C.A.

 

Tradition Bar

Old-School vibe, serves whimsical cocktails, bar snacks are fruit roll-ups, beef jerky, cotton candy and popcorn. 

 

Cafe de Casa

Fried Rissoles and Coxinhas- the Brazilian equivalent of savory empanadas 

 

Good Luck Dim Sum

Rice balls.

 

Good Mong Kok Bakery

one of the only real dim sum bakeries open through the afternoon in Chinatown. There's a line for a reason. Have the ladies pile a to-go box high with fifty-cent pork buns and pork dumplings with scallions.
